Marstal, Denmark

Waves of relief washed over us as we entered the Elbe River into Cuxhaven, at the entrance to the Kiel Canal in Germany. Bye bye, North Sea!

There was just once casualty, my iphone, on the ocean floor in Holland, but no scratches, dents or holes in Star Mist, and the toughest sailing behind us.

The Canal was a tranquil breeze, the locks surprisingly manageable after some coaching by sailing angel “Angela,” a Belgian Aussie, and the lock traffic control very polite and even warm as we squeezed into the locks like sardines around tanker ships.

Kiel welcomed us with its annual Kiel Regatta summer fest, including races, tall ships, and dancers on the shore.

And then, Denmark! An easy sail north took us across the border and into the charming marina of Marstal on the island of Aero.

With crystal clear waters and blue skies, this area’s moniker “the South Seas of Denmark” is spot on. Tak til Danmark!🇩🇰❤️🥂🎊
